WEEKLY COMMENT
Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. MedComms Networking - 23 April 2024
Hi
We are all talking about these as challenging times. A lot of recruitment plans are currently on hold or at least reduced. But if the only way now is up, we need to crack on and prepare for future business growth. We still need to attract top talent, in the short, medium and longer term. It's tough enough for entry-level job-seekers, but let's continue providing useful information and support for all those who are looking at career opportunities in and around our specialist business. And let's do more together. We are stronger together, surely?
Our next FirstMedCommsJob in-person careers event is at Birmingham University on 27 June and I want to hear from more employers who would like to join us to talk to the expected 100+ entry-level jobseekers on the day. The event worked really well last year and they're keen to have us back. We will expect graduates, post-graduates, PhDs and post-docs, medics and pharmacists and allied HCPS, and more from across the UK. The events are informal, great fun and very useful for everyone. Importantly, these in-person events provide valuable opportunities to shout loudly about opportunities in and around #MedComms to a much wider online audience as well. Let me know if you'd like to get involved and please help spread the word amongst all relevant others.
If you run your own events for jobseekers, do tell me. I'll happily share details via our FirstMedCommsJob service. I'll support anything that spreads the #MedComms word!
On that note, please point any entry-level job seekers at this webinar tomorrow, Wednesday 24 April, Careers at Costello Medical – Medical Communications
Here's news of some other relevant upcoming activities I've spotted that might be also of interest to members of this community...
Talking of tough times, this Fierce Biotech Layoff Tracker 2024 makes for brutal reading.
The Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) launched a new community service especially for us in MedComms! Have you signed up yet?
Surveys are always interesting, don't you think? Good for a lively argument, at least. A click bait headline maybe. The article Two-thirds of top 20 pharmas have banned ChatGPT - and many in life sci call AI 'overrated,' survey finds begs many questions, but read this LinkedIn thread from Gary Monk for some sensible comments to consider.
Here's a recording of last week's webinar from Camino, Bridging the gap: Creation to communication with AI in pharma (or catch it anytime at NetworkPharma.tv)
And from the UK's PM Society, AI unleashed, don't wait for guidance
And from the Asia-Pacific MedComms Network, The future is now: adopting AI to enhance medical communications
So much AI!
Take a break next Wednesday, 01 May, when we start a new series of free #MedComms Webinars. The Power of Pro Bono in Medical Communications features Jennie Talman (Passion Partnership), Sarah Wynn (Unique) and Liz Southey (The Salve Health). Everyone's welcome.
Stay well, everyone. There's lots more coming. Hit the reply button and let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.
Cheers
