MedComms Networking - 16 May 2023
Hi
We've always had a problem in and around MedComms - at least in my opinion. We struggle to really define and understand what is happening across our business and the marketplace. People in different companies tend not to talk to each other. Tend not to share information openly. All I've tried to do for 17 years is encourage a little more sharing. We've seen the value, time and time again. We just need more of it.
Yesterday, Zenopa launched their Healthcare Communication's Talent Insight Survey (UK) 2023. The idea is to run it annually, to compare and contrast over time. This one is for UK folks only, but the results will be freely available to everyone. The survey closes 9 June. If you are in the UK, please complete the form as fully as possible and share it widely. Encourage all relevant others to join in. Let's muster a large response and see what we can see about the state of our business.
[PLEASE COMPLETE THE SURVEY HERE]
The survey explores much more than simply assessing current scales of salaries and benefits. It will provide lots of food for thought for everyone, UK-based or not.
There's a host of common HR challenges faced by MedComms agencies everywhere. So, what happens if we gather an eclectic group of folks, representing a bunch of (very) different MedComms agencies, in-person, to talk openly and specifically about those matters? Managing stress in the workplace. Mental health support. Working practices. Talent acquisition. DEI Initiatives. And much more.
Yesterday, our first MedComms HR Forum in Oxford proved fascinating. Thank you and kudos to everyone who joined in. A particular shout out to Paul Hutchings of Fox & Cat for sharing information about his Under the tree initiative, which is described as "a safe online space where communications professionals can learn the skills and techniques needed to transform workload stress and pressure into a positive influence". Take a look at the free resources and use them with your teams.
Not surprisingly, a host of common challenges were quickly identified. It became very clear very early on that there would be significant benefits talking openly amongst the group. During the day those results became very evident.
One point is maybe worth reflecting on. It simply wouldn't have worked on-line. Sometimes you have to get together in a room. And yes, there was cake!
I hope it will lead to more open discussions and that many more people from across our specialist community will get involved. Ideas and expressions of interest are welcome.
Talking about involving the community...
Our annual Celebration of a day in the Life of #MedComms returns on 14 June. Have you made a diary note? Wherever you are in the world on the day, at least wake up and shout "Happy #MedComms Day" on your favourite social media platform. Hopefully we will see some more creative activities. Follow #MedComms - make some noise!
There's lots more happening - some of it today! Stay well, everyone.
Cheers
