    WEEKLY COMMENT

Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 11 June 2024

    Hi

As I am sending this, the clocks are striking midnight in Auckland in New Zealand. There at least, it is now, officially, #MedComms Day, Wednesday 12 June. It's our 13th annual global celebration of a day in the life of #MedComms. As you wake up and start your working day, wherever in the world you are, please make some #MedComms noise. On LinkedIn. On X. On Instagram. On Tik Tok. Whatever your favourite social media platform. Let's hear it across all the time zones. All support appreciated. With just a little push or two, the hashtag #MedComms will take on a life of its own, at least for the day. Have some fun with it.

Are you ready? Most importantly, have you all got cake?

The online events listed below are all free to join from wherever in the world you are. They include some valuable educational meetings and some great networking opportunities. Kudos to all the organisers. This is just what I can share. I understand there is more happening. Follow #MedComms to keep up.

Q2 meeting of the Asia-Pacific #MedComms Network of 2024: Factors for determining the impact of publications in the Asia-Pacific region with Jonathan Lee (Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Singapore), Blair Hesp (First in Human, New Zealand) and Steven Inglis (Oxford PharmaGenesis, Australia)

The Great #MedComms Workbook Bake Off - all freelancers welcome, not just Workbook subscribers, led by Eleanor Steele

#MedComms Webinar: New approaches for a new era in medcomms with Elena Mills (The Salve Health), James Turnbull (Camino) and Anne Clare Wadsworth (Amica Scientific)

Festival of #MedComms: A networking and careers event for professionals in healthcare communications to meet with recruiters and experts from PharmiWeb, Word Monster, performance-io, IPG Health Medical Communications, Costello Medical, inScience Communications, Avalere Health and OPEN Health, all led by Tom Davies of pobl.

ISMPP (International Society for Medical Publication Professionals) U Webinar: The AI Evolution: Medical Communications in the Digital Age - FREE on #MedComms Day for Members and Non-Members! Featuring Matt Lewis (Inizio Medical), Helene Dassule (Alexion Pharmaceuticals) and Simon Foulcer (AstraZeneca)

Check out MedCommsDay.com and follow #MedComms for much more.

Assuming we all survive #MedComms Day, then the free #MedComms webinars continue next week with what should be a fascinating and perhaps unsettling discussion about the role of AI in medical video and animation today. Are we sufficiently exploiting the story-telling power of video and animation in medical communications? What's stopping us? Can newer technologies help us reduce cost and complexity? Is generative AI technology offering all that it promises? Quint Boa, Owner and Managing Director of Synima, a global award-winning video production company will reflect on what's possible in the real world, away from the hype, and bust some myths. What can we believe and what's currently fakery? Can we tell the difference? What might be possible in the next five years or more? Join us!

Stay well, everyone. There's lots more coming. Hit the reply button and let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.

    Cheers
