    WEEKLY COMMENT

Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 10 October 2023

    Hi

So, we also now have guidance about using AI from the Healthcare Communications Association (HCA). Their new position paper, The AI Roadmap - charting our future in healthcare communications, was published last week. View the publication and watch or listen to the accompanying webinar, here.

My guest in next week's #MedComms webinar, Matt Lewis (Global Chief Artificial and Augmented Intelligence Officer at Inizio Medical), was closely involved in this initiative from the Healthcare Communications Association (HCA). He has also worked with both the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) and the Medical Affairs Professional Society (MAPS) on their recent guidance documents. So he will update us on all of them in what should be a fascinating session. Put simply, Matt wants us to reimagine MedComms. Everyone's welcome. Please help spread the word and encourage all relevant others to join us. Indeed, this is one of those occasions when I hope many of you will gather your teams together, share some cake, and use it as a group learning exercise. The more the merrier.

If you're not sure you can make it, sign up anyway and we will let you know as soon as the recording is available.

Like it or not, AI is already affecting us all.

Meanwhile in tomorrow's webinar, we'll discuss the importance of CPD within medcomms and the work being done by the Healthcare Communications Association (HCA) to encourage a focus on CPD throughout career lifecycles. We'll also hear how the team at IPG Health Medical Communications is providing CPD opportunities for experienced talent through Northstar. On our panel we will have Mike Dixon (HCA), Rebecca Douglas (IPG Health) and Caroline Smith (IPG Health). It's free. Please join us.

If you missed last week's webinar, In conversation with Carole Scrafton, Patient Advocate then you can now view it anytime, along with hundreds of other video recordings, at NetworkPharma.tv. These conversations with the patient advocates always provide food for thought. I'd love to hear your comments and feedback.

In other news, here's a useful webinar coming up next Monday, from Taylor & Francis. Understanding Open Research for Medical & Pharmaceutical Research will be delivered by Head of Open Research Matt Cannon and tailored specifically for the pharma and medcomms audience. Everyone's welcome.

And healthcare communications specialist Camilla Dormer kicked off quite a thread on LinkedIn last week when she asked; What corporate tales, stripe-earning sagas and rites of passage from days of yore do your younger team members find it hard to fathom?!. Those of you of a certain age may find the comments entertaining. Go on, add your own thoughts.

    There's lots more coming.

P.S. Today is World Mental Health day. Take care of yourselves. If you've not seen it before, check out the award-winning Under the tree initiative from Fox & Cat. It's a safe online space where communications professionals can learn the skills and techniques needed to transform workload stress and pressure into a positive influence.

    Cheers
