MedComms Networking is a not-for-profit initiative building on the work of Peter Llewellyn which seeks to unite individuals and organisations involved in delivering health information. We will do this by listening and by delivering a weekly newsletter and regular online and in-person events. Our group welcomes writers, scientists, editors, educators, project managers, filmmakers, medical journalists, healthcare professionals, researchers, academics, and patient advocates from around the world to join us. The aim is to inform, educate and advance our profession and, ultimately, support patient care.

    LUNCH AND LEARN - 9 DECEMBER 2015 - OXFORD

Altmetric data: what can it mean for you?

At this Lunch and Learn event, Ben McLeish, European Product Sales Manager for Altmetric for Institutions provided a valuable insight in to the use of their data. He was able to draw upon case studies from organisations who are beginning to integrate this qualitative data into their monitoring and reporting workflows, and discuss the benefits and advantages that having such insight can provide for Medical Communications professionals and the projects that they support. We're hoping this will lead to a bigger event next year.

Altmetric are a data science company based in London, UK. Supported by Digital Science, Altmetric was founded in 2012 with the aim of helping researchers and organisations more easily track and report on the online activity surrounding their research.

Altmetric believe that researchers should get credit for their research no matter what format the output, and that metrics can provide a useful indicator of the potential broader impacts and influence of scholarly work. Altmetric data is currently being utilised by leading publishers, funders and institutions large and small around the world.

Clients include Springer, Nature Publishing Group, Taylor & Francis, Wiley, Duke University, Cambridge University, the Wellcome Trust, National Geographic, and the World Cancer Research Fund amongst many others.
