    AFTERNOON BRIEFING - 3 DECEMBER 2014 - MACCLESFIELD

Procuring MedComms - an insider's view

In the lead up to the event we ran a simple, anonymous, online survey and collected responses from 61 specialists, which provided some interesting insights into the challenges the MedComms community face. The top line data was included in the presentation given by Peter Llewellyn below, but the full data set is freely accessible for you as indicated below. It is worth taking time to browse the many free text comments.

In recent years one of the most significant developments for agencies that provide MedComms services has been the increased influence of the Pharma procurement departments on the purchasing and supply process. Procurement specialists are seen by many as simply wanting to slash costs, but is that a fair judgement? Can MedComms services such as medical writing really be reduced to a commodity-based approach? Can it all simply be reduced to a cost per thousand words? Where's the magic? What's the cost of 'excellence'? Where's the 'partnership' we all hear about?

At this event David Pilley talked as an insider about what the procurement specialists are aiming to achieve on their side, and specifically how they view MedComms services, and he lead a valuable discussion about how to work effectively with procurement departments from pitch through to delivery.

As usual the meeting not only served as a valuable educational opportunity but also allowed plenty of time for networking with colleagues from across the MedComms business.
