    WEEKLY COMMENT

Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 13 September 2022

    Hi

Well, these are interesting times! Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the sad news last week about Queen Elizabeth 2, but it means that we have had to cancel our upcoming event, Working in and around #MedComms, as the State Funeral is now happening that same day.

It's a huge shame. It was shaping up to be a really interesting event and a lot of work had been done by a lot of people to make it happen in the way it was. More than 40 organisations involved in the programme, and more than 500 people registered to participate. Who knows how many more were already engaging online and would do so in future? It really was looking like something we hadn't seen before in this sector, and hugely valuable.

But this one was out of our control.

Discussions are ongoing about what can be done instead. It won't be a simple exercise to reschedule and whatever we do is going to be disruptive. However, it would be good to hold on to the enthusiasm we created if we can.

We'll tidy the web site at NetworkPharma.careers over the coming days and everyone will still be able to access a wealth of useful information online. Follow hashtag #MedComms and keep those conversations going.

As soon as we have a new date then I will share it.

Meanwhile check out MedCommsNetworking.com for details of more upcoming activities, like the weekly #MedComms webinars.

We start again Wednesday 5 October with Sheena Amin-Liebman, Kirsty Wear and Nick Holmes from Fishawack Health talking about how to embed inclusion and diversity into everyday work practices in MedComms. Everyone's welcome. Please join us

The following week, Wednesday 12 October, Matt Grey will join us. Are event planners zombies? How to design and measure more sustainable events. Matt will use real-life examples to show you how both pharma and other B2B brands are approaching understanding and measuring the impacts of their event programmes and promises to provide some real food for thought!

We've many more great topics and panels coming up. Please spread the word and encourage all relevant others to join us. If you miss the live webinars, the recordings are freely available at NetworkPharma.tv.

Finally, news from the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA), who are running their 54th Conference in Riga, 3-5 November. Registration should be open this week. Beforehand, they are running a fully virtual Getting into Medical Writing open session on Friday 23 September. Experienced medical writers and EMWA members will present and discuss the vast career path of medical writing and how EMWA can help you achieve your professional goals in this rewarding career path. Note non-members of EMWA should create an account to register for the event.

Oh. I'm on that panel talking about networking! We can't meet in person just yet at Heathrow, but we can still meet online.

It's a busy time ahead. Stay well, everyone. Stay safe. Look out for each other.

    Cheers
