    MedComms Networking - 11 October 2022

    Hi

It was global Mental Health Day yesterday. And it's National Work Life Week this week in the UK. Folks across MedComms have lit up the various platforms with stories and memes to illustrate how their companies support the wellness and wellbeing of their staff.

All very laudable if it translates into real meaningful support. It's sometimes difficult to tell from where I sit, though I think generally MedComms companies do genuinely step up, and do so effectively. Recruiting and retaining staff depends on it.

It's unusual to get comprehensive insight into what companies really do in-house, but I think we achieved that last week with our #MedComms webinar, supported by Fishawack Health. The recording of How to embed inclusion and diversity into everyday work practices in MedComms is freely available. Sheena Amin-Liebman (Director of Diversity & Inclusion) explained how the D&I team was built up, how Fishawack Health have introduced mandatory training in this area and how to cultivate an inclusive workplace fit for everyone, now and in years to come. Sheena was joined on the panel by colleagues, Kirsty Wear (Global Head of Talent) and Tristan Varela (Medical Copywriter). Kudos.

Hopefully we provided food for thought. I like to imagine these webinars and the recordings provide valuable excuses to gather your teams together, share some cake, and to reflect on your own working practices.

I certainly hope that's the case with tomorrow's Webinar. In Are event planners zombies? How to design and measure more sustainable events, Matt Grey (Founder of event:decision) will use real-life examples to show you how both pharma and other B2B brands are approaching understanding and measuring the impacts of their event programmes. And he's got some great stories of the good, the bad and the ugly!

Are we serious about changing working practices in our industry? Can we in fact catalyse change in meaningful ways, whilst other stake-holders do - what? However well-meaning, does it help if I simply plant trees every time I fly? Does it really help to simply stop printing, everything?

We'll keep the theme going with next week's webinar, Good business is everyone's responsibility. Can MedComms do better?

Good question. Elena Mills (Co-founder, The Salve), Liz Southey (Co-founder, The Salve) and Jo Spadaccino (Co-founder, Stirred) will take you on their (Pending) B Corporation journeys to becoming truly purpose-driven organisations. I think everyone should join us!

Here are some related activities that might also interest you.
