MedComms Networking - 11 January 2022
Hi
The 15th birthday celebrations for MedComms Networking are a tad muted at the moment! Follow hashtag #MedComms on your favourite social media platform and join in however you like. It's a good excuse to make more noise for MedComms. And make a diary note to raise a glass and say "cheers" on 25 January. I might make it a bottle!
My plans changed suddenly last week when I had to temporarily relocate to support my aged parents. Again, I'd encourage everyone to watch the recordings of the MedComms Forum before Christmas, Succeeding in MedComms, despite what life throws at us. We all have "stuff" going on in our lives. Technology can enable us to move around apparently seamlessly, but it's also stating the obvious that sometimes real-world, in-person time is necessary, and can be priceless. So make use of your opportunities when you can in these crazy, disrupted times.
We're currently working on the 2022 edition of our FirstMedCommsJob careers guide, The business of medical communications: a guide to getting started in account management, written by Lindsey Heer. It will be published shortly. As usual, we're collecting quotes from individuals from across the community and it's uplifting to see so many positive comments and such enthusiasm for our business.
This year's editions of our six FirstMedCommsJob careers guides will be the legacy editions. They've done a great job raising awareness about different careers in MedComms, but it's time to move on from the print-based format we started many years ago. There's lots more ideas coming, though, so FirstMedCommsJob.com will continue to help entry-level job seekers. Thanks to those Sponsors who specifically support that initiative. We couldn't do it without them. Special kudos to AMICULUM Ltd, Ashfield Health, Envision Pharma Group, Fishawack Health, Helios Medical Communications, Lucid Group, McCann Health Medical Communications and Oxford PharmaGenesis.
This year will see some changes to our range of services, but - with your permission - I'll continue to champion and support MedComms for some time yet! Let me know any feedback, or suggestions for new and different approaches and activities.
It's been a tough 15 years, but useful - I think. Do share your #MedComms memories. Maybe some old photos? I'll be delighted if you join in and record a short video story using the Storyvine App. It's easy. Keep it simple. Sarah Smith, now an Associate Director of Medical Writing at Caudex, has recorded her story here. Hear more about Sarah's incredible time as an "extreme" freelancer in this recording of our #MedComms Webinar from 2018, Extreme freelancing: writing whilst sailing around the world.
We've all got a story to tell. Download the Storyvine App now and simply follow the instructions.
Stay well, everyone. Look out for each other.
There's lots more coming. The #MedComms Webinars start again on 2 February with Len Starnes leading our discussion, Medical Society Conferences: What we learnt in 2021, what might happen in 2022. Everyone's welcome.
Cheers
