    WEEKLY COMMENT

Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. MedComms Networking - 31 October 2017

    Hi

One of the first (sensible) emails I received this week was from someone who attended our careers event in Manchester last month. As a direct result of attending the event, she's just accepted an associate medical writing job with one of the larger MedComms agency groups that was represented on the day. I love getting these messages. They remind me we're doing something useful.

"I thought the event provided an excellent opportunity to talk to current AMWs [Associate Medical Writers] and agencies to find out more about the role. The presentations were also very useful and informative. Before the event I was a little unsure as to whether medical writing would be suited to me but the event gave me good insight into the role and confirmed that I wanted to try to get an AMW role... Thank you very much for organising the event, I don't think I would have secured an AMW role so quickly if it wasn't for the event."

Great stuff. We'll be back in Manchester in September next year (and, all being well, back in London in the Summer) but meanwhile and importantly our next upcoming careers event has now been confirmed for 11 January in Oxford. This is now firmly established as an annual event in Oxford. Once again, we will expect an enthusiastic audience of students and researchers from the biomedical sciences departments within and around Oxford and from other Universities across the UK, as well as others from industry and elsewhere, who will meet with a number of medical communications professionals for a highly engaging session which presents medical writing and account management in MedComms as attractive career options. Everyone is welcome. Agencies that have already confirmed they will be attending are as follows: 7.4 Limited, Ashfield Healthcare Communications, Envision Pharma Group, Fishawack Group, Highfield Communication, Insight Medical Writing, Lucid Group, McCann Complete Medical, NexGen Healthcare Communications, Oxford PharmaGenesis and Prime Global.

There's a strict maximum of 12 spaces for the MedComms agencies so we can only include one more. Give me a shout soon if you want to join us.

Please, everyone, help spread the word amongst all your relevant contacts. The event is free of charge to anyone with an interest in entry-level opportunities in MedComms - let's get more of those positions filled!

Meanwhile, tomorrow we'll be joined by Karen Borrer, Head of Reputation at The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) who'll talk about Disclosure UK, at our Brunch Club meeting. She'll be joined by Jo Merriman of Concise talking about making your healthcare and pharmaceutical events a success and Tiberio Catania of EPG Communications Group talking about Scientific meetings in the digital age. We'll film the talks as usual, but it's always useful to have a small audience for the speakers. So, please join us - lunch is on me!

Have a good week, everyone. As an aside, have you seen KFC Is Only Following 11 People On Twitter For A Totally Genius Reason? Genius, surely.

    Cheers
