    MedComms Networking - 29 November 2022

    Hi

First today, a big shout out to Emma Pizzolo, Jeremy Williams and Phebe Denison for bringing Healthcare Consultancy Group (HCG) on board last week as a new Sponsor for all this free MedComms Networking activity. HCG are a global leader in medical communications, with over 1,000 employees across 8 agencies: Chameleon, Synergy, Health Science Communications, ProEd Communications, The Scienomics Group, ProEd Regulatory, Lumen Value & Access and The Engagement Group.

Without the support of our Sponsors, none of this could happen in the way it does. Kudos to them all. And we've a busy couple of weeks as we head towards the end of the year.

At our recent in-person #MedComms event at Heathrow, we included some excellent Masterclasses, run by leading specialist trainers and coaches. I'm delighted we can now run some online for anyone, anywhere. We start today at 13.00 UK time, Tuesday 29 November. Top 10 Tips for Passing a Medical Writing Test will be led by Vicky Sherwood (host of the STEM careers blog, Biomed Badass). Everyone's welcome. Please tell all relevant others.

An important topic of discussion at Heathrow was around attracting diverse talent into MedComms. A dedicated session led by Charlie Buckwell of IPG Health was standing-room only on the day. In recent years, there has been a greater focus on gender, ethnicity and race, though other characteristics are sometimes forgotten about. Examples include visible (and invisible) disabilities, neurodiversity, gender identity and expression, caring responsibilities, and socio-economic circumstances.

    We must do more.

In tomorrow's weekly webinar we will hear personal stories and experiences that will encourage us all to think about how well we support each other in practice, and about how MedComms can offer career opportunities for all - free from prejudice and discrimination. We'll be joined by Jayne Carey-George (Sciterion), Hayley Hubberstey (COUCH Health) and Simon Stones (Envision Pharma Group) to talk about challenges they have faced in their MedComms careers and the practical advice they can offer employers and employees. Please come to this webinar with questions, and help generate further discussion and action to make MedComms the equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace it should be. NOTE: live human captioning will be provided for this webinar. Everyone's welcome.

Next week, online, we've two more FirstMedCommsJob masterclasses for the wannabes and, for everyone, our annual Meet the Publishers event to look forward to. As I say; busy, busy, busy.

P.S. don't forget, if you miss the live events, we always aim to make the recordings freely available at NetworkPharma.tv. Last week's webinar was another excellent session, for everyone. Who doesn't want their web content to be seen? Tom Harrison, Isla MacAskill and Siobhan Robertson from performance-io, the only pure play specialist SEO agency in healthcare and pharma, explained what SEO is, and why it's such an important tool for providing patients and HCPs with the information they truly want. Another great opportunity for a lunch and learn with your own team. With cake, of course.

There's lots more coming. Stay well, everyone.

    Cheers
