    WEEKLY COMMENT

Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 28 November 2017

    Hi

Today, I'm heading towards Cambridge for another of our Lunch and Learn events supported by Concise, this time to talk about measuring success with event tech analytics. Importantly I'm trying to find out if there's an appetite for more activities in and around Cambridge next year, so let me know if you've any thoughts on that.

I really should learn not to arrange meetings on Tuesdays, though. It's hard preparing this newsletter and managing an event at the same time. If I just ran everything virtually, think of the travel time (and cost) that would save...

I now run weekly virtual video meetings using Zoom with the freelancers who subscribe to the MedComms Workbook service. It's like a virtual coffee morning. Have you used Zoom? I'm totally sold on it now, I confess! Very inexpensive, easy to set up, the video streaming works well and people can join in from all over the world who otherwise never meet in person. What's not to like? (Other options are, of course, available, I have no related conflicts of interest to declare... I just like Zoom)

And I'm delighted to confirm that Caroline Halford, Digital Publishing Manager for Springer Healthcare, will work with me on our third Virtual MedComms Event on 1 March 2018 when we'll discuss digital features in medical publications. Reserve your seat now! Once again we'll line up a panel of experts and the emphasis in the meeting will be on encouraging the audience to ask questions and share their own experiences. These regular virtual meetings are being supported by Blue Sky eLearn and, again, allow everyone everywhere to join in. More than 300 people registered last time. Can we do even better in March?

The beauty of this approach to meetings is you can, if you choose, easily archive the recordings for everyone everywhere to access at a time to suit them. It's completely changing the concept of meetings, which are no longer restricted to a single time and place.

Hence the concept of NetworkPharma.tv which is steadily growing into a valuable collection of our own webcasts to freely access, anytime from anywhere. My next step is to add in relevant third party content. Chris Bartley of Havas Life Medicom is now building a useful series of short videos to his YouTube channel with useful tips for account managers and we've started integrating those into NetworkPharma.tv. If you know of similar relevant video content, or you'd like to work together to generate such content, then give me a shout.

But, you know what? I still like meeting in real life. It's always going to be best. Let's not stop altogether. Let me know if you've ideas for events in 2018 and let's make sure some, at least, are real life.

So, off to Cambridge, now. By the way, did you see, last week Nucleus Group were the latest to announce a new formalised training scheme for wannabe MedComms specialists. If you know of any more please let me know.

    Cheers
