WEEKLY COMMENT
Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. MedComms Networking - 24 November 2020
Hi
First, a big shout out to Peter Griffiths and his colleagues at Bioscript who are now sponsoring MedComms Networking activity. Huge kudos to you. And indeed to all the current Sponsors. Without their help I simply couldn't do all this in the way we do it, making so much valuable resource so freely accessible to so many.
Last week's Weekly #MedComms webinar was really valuable. Jayne Packham explained the key changes that are expected in the 2021 ABPI Code of Practice. A complete restructuring of the document means if you can confidently quote the clause numbers that apply to specific situations... you'll need to relearn it all! It seems unclear how much guidance will be included in light of the disruption this year, especially in the events arena, but Jayne reminded us that Joint Guidance on Virtual International Medical Congresses Impacted by COVID-19 was issued in July 2020 by IFPMA, EFPIA and PhRMA.
My advice? Gather your team and stream the video so you can plan for what's coming.
Meanwhile, last week we had an Extra #MedComms Webinar about the launch of the new FUEL initiative for entry-level recruits from McCann Health Medical Communications. A large group of wannabes (and others) heard how they plan to launch the careers of their future experts and leaders. Thanks to Daniel Cicognani, Phillip Hall, Hannah Logan and Ruth Hadley for joining us.
Tomorrow, again aimed at wannabes but everyone is welcome, we'll hear about working in MedComms at Syneos Health Communications with Amanda Smith, Alex da Costa, Rebecca Thomas, Eoin Duffy and Grace Parkinson. Please spread the word.
Next week we'll talk about Working as a medical publications professional with John Gonzalez, author of our new FirstMedCommsJob careers guide "Ensuring timely dissemination of research: A guide to working as a medical publications professional", published in October 2020. The expert panel also includes Kat Ayling-Rouse, Roz Bonomally and Andrea Cifelli from Envision Pharma Group.
And then we've our annual meet the Medical Publishers panel discussion on 9 December.
Importantly, then we're rounding off a crazy year on 16 December with a big Zoom meeting for everyone, Better Homeworking in MedComms. The programme is being organised by Tim Hardman (Niche Science and Technology) and Steven Walker (St Gilesmedical London and Berlin). We'll explore the contradictions of homeworking and seek the experiences of a range of stakeholders. Issues to be addressed include room ergonomics, health and safety, good mental health, finances, human resources and contracts, mutual support, maintaining company ethos and socialising on line. Presenters include: Rebecca Douglas, Rob Davies, Christian Hambly, Susie Marriott, Dr Christine Oesterling MD MRCGP, Karina Rudzinska, Iain Smith, and Louise Upton. It should be fun. See the full details and sign up now - and bring everyone!
Then I'll fall over and wonder what the heck happened in 2020!
Remember, details of all our activities are kept bang up-to-date at www.MedCommsNetworking.com or give me a shout at any time if you've any questions, comments or suggestions.
Stay safe and well, everyone.
Cheers
