MedComms Networking - 20 March 2018
Hi
It's time for another "Hug a Sponsor" week! Yesterday we had our (7th) biannual Sponsors' meeting. The Chatham House Rule is always strictly applied but I can safely say we were pleased to have Steve Mott, Co-Founder of Keep Me Informed, join us to talk about patient-centric communications. And, for instance, we certainly had lively discussion about the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which becomes enforceable from 25 May 2018 and is causing some of us to scratch our heads a little. It sounds like there are lots of lawyers and GDPR consultants active across MedComms, and indeed everywhere else, so they're doing OK out of it, but hopefully common sense trumps some of the more extreme interpretations of what's required. We'll soon find out.
On that note I noticed the Healthcare Communications Association (HCA) is running an event about GPDR this Friday, which might be of interest; at least, if you are a member (it's free for members but the price for non-members is a bit daft).
I'm still looking for someone who understands the place of GDPR in MedComms and who'll join in with some rather more openly accessible activity. If you know of anyone who might be interested let me know.
Meanwhile back to giving out hugs - these are the guys to look for; Adelphi Communications, AMICULUM Ltd, Ashfield Healthcare Communications, Aspire Scientific, Bioscript Group, Caudex, Elements Communications, Envision Pharma Group, Fishawack Group, HealthCare21 Communications, Highfield:Communication, inScience Communications, Insight Medical Writing, integrated medhealth communication (imc), Lucid Group, NexGen Healthcare Communications, Oxford PharmaGenesis, Porterhouse Medical, Prime Global and Spirit Medical Communications Group.
Without the Sponsors, none of all this can happen. But the annual sponsorship period renews on 1 April and each year we're bound to lose a few, but maybe gain a few as well. One way or another, hopefully, we'll carry on rolling but a polite hug won't go amiss. Give me a shout if you'd like to take your place amongst the elite group of leading companies... Watch this space.
Nearly as important, and serving as a great example of what we can do by working together, last week we published the 10th edition of our annual careers guide, From academic to medical writer: a guide to getting started in medical communications, written by Annick Moon. Now we need to make as much noise as possible about it, so please share the news with all relevant others. Why not simply click here and like/share/comment on my status update on Linkedin. Or join in tweeting the news using hashtag #MedComms. It's amazing how far we'll reach by working together.
Meanwhile, I can still squeeze two more in tomorrow on our workshop in Oxford, Making a success of freelancing in MedComms, if you aren't already subscribing to the MedComms Workbook or perhaps if you're thinking of starting as a freelancer. It's always a cracking day.
Have a great week.
Cheers
