    WEEKLY COMMENT

Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 17 January 2017

    Hi

Many thanks to all who participated in our Careers Event last week. Here's a typical example of the feedback:

"I just wanted to say thanks for an excellent event, really well run and organised; the speakers were great, the QandA session was really useful, and all the reps from the various companies were very friendly and patient with my questions. I left with much better understanding of MedComms and careers within it than I arrived with."

Please note we're currently working on the 2017 issue of the annual MedComms Careers Guide - if you want your agency to appear in the directory this year please let me know ASAP. Space is running out fast. Publication will be in March as usual.

We've now posted the webcasts from this month's Brunch Club meeting. They're all great talks with good solid advice and practical insights, but I'd particularly highlight Kirsty's talk about the Crossmark button. Did you know how valuable that button can be? Watch them in your own time or use them as the basis for team learning. They're all freely accessible as are all the webcasts at NetworkPharma.tv. Enjoy.

  • Crossref - Providing Infrastructure and Services for Scholarly Comms: Rachael Lammey, Member and Community Outreach at Crossref, talks about how the Crossref services for scholarly publishing make content easy to find, cite, link and assess.

  • CrossMark: providing updates and linking clinical trial publications: Kirsty Meddings of Crossref demonstrates the depth of information about an article that's available to researchers who click the Crossmark button.

  • How to get the best out of presubmission enquiries: Caroline Halford of Adis explains how a judicious approach to presubmission enquiries and discussions with journal editors can aid successful article submissions.

  • Highlights of the 9th Annual European CME Forum: Eugene Pozniak of European CME Forum and of Siyemi Learning, shares the key points he took away from the recent 9th Annual European CME Forum which took place in Amsterdam, 9-11 November 2016.

Our next Brunch Club meeting is 1 February if you want to join us.

Importantly also note our second MedComms Landscape Training day for new starters is taking place in Macclesfield on 7 March.

But importantly, have I mentioned a small event next week to celebrate 10 years of MedComms Networking activity? If you can join us please do so, we've plenty of space. If you can't join us in Oxford please join in on Twitter using hashtag #medcomms and use your Linkedin status to spread the word about the good work this community does. Let's be loud and proud, for one day at least.

Also on 25 January, ISMPP is running a special 90-minute educational webinar, Graphical Presentation of Data in Medical Publications, which is complimentary to ALL, regardless of ISMPP membership status!

Meanwhile I'd better run. I'm late for the 2017 European meeting of ISMPP. I'm here if anyone wants a chat. For instance, what the heck has happened to Jeffrey Beall's List of (allegedly) predatory publishers this week?

    Cheers
