    WEEKLY COMMENT

Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 12 May 2020

    Hi

First a big shout out to Jenny Plant and Matt Plant who kicked off our new series of free, weekly, #MedComms webinars last week, with an insightful discussion about some of the fundamentals to building competence as a new manager in medical communications. Matt included a useful collection of sources of further information, so if you're about to move into management, or have recently started, or might want to, watch the video now and consider his suggestions.

Tomorrow, Jessica Beishon and Jo Fetterman from Parexel will talk about their company, what MedComms means for them and the different roles within their teams. Everyone welcome. Register for free here.

Next Wednesday, 20 May, we'll talk about Being a freelance writer in MedComms, with Kathryn White, author of "Making it my own business: a guide to being a freelance writer in MedComms", published in April 2020. Also on the panel will be freelance writers Hannah Bridges and Colleen Shannon who both contributed to that guide.

It's great to see the high levels of interest in joining MedComms at the moment. We're well on the way to 150 registrations for tomorrow's webinar, and we've well over 200 for next Monday's Meet the agencies (virtually!) event when we've six of the current Sponsors of FirstMedCommsJob.com talking about their agencies and answering questions from the audience. Please help spread the word and encourage all relevant others to join us.

Please, if you're currently recruiting at entry-level, make sure to let me know. I'm happy to pass word along.

Overall, as far as MedComms recruitment is concerned, it seems a very mixed picture out there. Some companies have simply stopped all recruitment. Others seem very active. There are no magic answers, but I'll continue to do what we can to help from here. For wannabes and others. We've still plenty of jobs being advertised, though, on NextMedCommsJob.com.

It's also been good to see work opportunities going out again to the MedComms Workbook freelancers, after a very quiet April. I guess everyone is settling down into new normals of working practices and projects still need to be done. If you need specialist freelance MedComms support, ping me a message to send on. It's free of charge, stupidly simple and can work fast!

Talking about new normals, try the following for some insights...

The new Digitally Sick podcast, Post Virtual Events, features Paul Simms discussing the reality of moving two big EyeforPharma industry events online at short notice

Unlocking Virtual Medical Congresses is on LinkedIn from Sam Barnes, of AXON Communications

And how about this? Today on LinkedIn from Tim Hardman of Niche Science and Technology; Bad News Event Horizon Any thoughts?

Finally, I'm getting more than the usual number of approaches at this stage about our annual MedComms Day. It's 10 June. Make a note. It's going to be busy...

Remember, details of all our activities are kept bang up-to-date at www.MedCommsNetworking.com or give me a shout at any time if you've any questions, comments or suggestions.

    Cheers
