Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.
MedComms Networking - 01 February 2022
I had some fun online last month, celebrating 15 years of #MedComms Networking activity. Thanks to all who joined in. Between us, we created some useful noise for #MedComms, which is useful. We want more people to understand our business. That starts by attracting their attention. Importantly, I also want everyone working in and around #MedComms to know they're part of a thriving global community and to reach out and connect with each other.
You're a tough crowd, though. Just think what could have been achieved...
Shall we assume the 80-20 rule applies to online activity?
So, for every 1,000 in the community
20 percent are aware I'm doing something (200)
20 percent of those take a closer look to see what's involved (40)
20 percent of those try to get involved eg download an App (8)
20 percent of those actually follow through (1.6)
And even then, only some of those reach the intended end goal (1?)
Sadly, even that's probably optimistic.
Everyone who posted a Christmas card into their LinkedIn status bar a few weeks ago and wished their contacts the best for the new year (quick, easy, free of charge) - probably missed 90 percent of them. But hey, job done. What's next on the to-do list?
Pause for thought.
However, that doesn't allow for the amplification that can happen. Depending on who joins in - and how - then the result can be very different. And largely unpredictable.
How many people, today, are frantically working on the next Wordle game, chasing an unlikely fortune?
How many will have given up by next week?
#MedComms, we'll keep going! Your support and participation are welcomed.
The weekly #MedComms webinars start again this week. We've a good crowd signed up for tomorrow's discussion with Len Starnes (Digital Healthcare Consultant) and Ilan Ben Ezri, (CEO and Co-Founder at G-Med) Medical Society Conferences: What we learnt in 2021, what might happen in 2022. Please join us. Please help spread the word.
If you miss the live webinar then catch up at NetworkPharma.tv where there are now more than 400 videos. Freely available, anytime from anywhere. Lots of relevant content, lots of expert contacts to reach out to for more help and to exchange ideas with. Enjoy!
Meanwhile, are you a new or aspiring medical writer? Please share your thoughts by completing this survey: Starting out as a medical writer run by the team at Aspire Scientific. They'll join me next week to discuss the results and hear about their novel pathway to a first medical writing role.
